Update on COVID-19 Coronavirus

Posted on: 12 March 2020
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَ رَحْمَةُ الله وَ بَرَكَاتُه
May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) be upon you.

Assalamu ‘alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

As promised in our communication from a few days ago, the management of Masjid As-Siddiq has continued to closely monitor the evolving circumstances of the COVID-19 Coronavirus and have some important developments to share with you.  Our plan for cleaning and sanitizing the Masjid, communicated earlier, has been in effect throughout the week. Commonly touched areas of the Masjid are being cleaned multiple times per week and our goal is to clean daily.

We are also taking the following steps to ensure your health and safety when visiting Masjid As-Siddiq for Salaat-ul Jum’uah, given current guidance from the Governor of NY regarding large gatherings.  Please note the below can change based on guidance from government officials.
  1. It is HIGHLY advisable that the sick, elderly, and those with underlying health issues, who are at high risk, should stay at home and pray Salaat-ul Dhur.  We recommend that they do not attend Salaat-ul Jum’uah.
  2. For the safety of our sisters, we ask that they not attend Salaat-ul Jum’uah.
  3. Anyone planning to attend Salaat-ul Jum’uah should:
    1. Make wudu at home or office before arriving at the Masjid (if possible)
    2. Please wash your hands & face before entering the Mussalah, or
    3. Use wipes or hand sanitizer to clean your hands & face.
  4. You are free to bring a personal prayer rug for use in the Masjid.
  5. Based on the current circumstances, avoid shaking hands and embracing.
  6. As a further safety precaution, we will be shortening the Khutbah and closely monitoring attendance.  The Khutbah will begin at 1:10 PM, doors will close at 1:20 PM, and Iqamaah will be at 1:30 PM, in shaa Allah.  PLEASE BE ON TIME.
  7. Those who will not attend Salaat-ul Jum’uah should offer Salaat-ul Dhur at home at it’s prescribed time.  We will be posting a recording of the Khutbah on our YouTube page, in shaa Allah.
In addition to the above, the Youth Workshop scheduled for Saturday, March 14th and the Sisters Event scheduled for Sunday, March 15th are both postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Our Qur’an classes (Tuesday to Friday) remain open.  However, we are leaving attendance up to the discretion of the parents.  The teacher will be available to conduct lessons. All students will be asked to properly wash hands and face before beginning classes.  Any student who is not feeling well should not attend classes.

Students of the Saturday Madrasa should attend classes on Saturday, March 14th.  Students will be given work packets and/or instructions for remote/online Madrasa for the remainder of the month.  In-person Madrasa will not be held on March 21st or March 28th. We will provide further updates based on developments, in shaa Allah.
We seek protection from the virus and put our trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) as our nourisher, sustainer, and provider.  We are reminded of the dua’ for protection against being afflicted by diseases:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبَرَصِ وَالْجُنُونِ وَالْجُذَامِ وَمِنْ سَيِّئِ الأَسْقَامِ

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-barasi, wal- jununi, wal-judhami, wa sayyi’il-asqami

O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from leprosy, madness, elephantiasis, and all major diseases.

We pray that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى)  protects everyone not afflicted with this sickness and pray that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) provides a cure for it quickly and returns those afflicted with it to full health.  We will continue to update you via email and/or social media on any changes at Masjid As-Siddiq.
